Regulation

Regulation Stream - Conference Day Two: Wednesday 16 June

Last November the PSD came into force with significant implications on prepaid businesses. By April 2011 the E-Money Directive will have a greater impact on prepaid and e-money operators including, retailers, online payments issuers, banks and mobile network operators. The EMD will try to ensure that e-money embraces all the different possible payment forms (card-based and server-based). This will provide a more competitive marketplace, which consequently should improve the quality of services. Don’t miss the regulatory breakout at Prepaid 2010 and your opportunity to gain a heads up of the impact regulation will have for the future of your prepaid business.

14.00  Reviewing the success of the PSD in light of the initial aims

  • The PSD aims to provide payment harmonisation and create a level playing field within the EU/EEA. This will support banks and other PSPs looking to develop new products and services such as prepaid that can be offered at a pan-European level. This review of the PSD will examine whether or not it has become easier to extend products and services into new countries and has allowed new entrants to the prepaid market.
    William Long, Counsel, Sidley Austin
